Nagaon is a great destination for a long weekend with beaches strewn around one after the other however Nagaon is not all about just the beaches. There are some very beautiful temples, forts and churches around Nagaon which will keep you interested all through your holiday.
Birla Mandir built atop a hillock near Salav village on the Alibaug – Roha route about 20 kms from Nagaon is one of the most popular temples in this region. Rameshwar Temple located in Chaul ahead of Revdanda is a famous Shiva temple .
Nagaon is flanked by forts on its either sides. Colaba sea fort off the Alibaug coast is just about 7 kms from Nagaon and is a great sightseeing option near Nagaon. On the southern side there is Korlai and Revdanda fort and Murud Janjira, the formidable sea fortress is another half an hours drive ahead.
Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel established in 1741 is located about 15 kms from Nagaon. From the church one can see the bastions of the Korlai fort famous for its lighthouse.
Akshi an extension of the Nagaon beach to its north is very popular amongst bird watchers and the vast stretch of Akshi beach would almost always be covered with waders and great knots.
